Swarmchasers: an agent fleet on Tencent Cloud probed Alibaba's Amap

Swarmchasers traced a fleet of AI agents that drove a public URL scanner to pull map data from Alibaba's Amap back to Tencent Cloud.

We found a Tencent agent fleet
INFOIncident

Swarmchasers traced 2,599 urlquery submissions aimed at Alibaba's Amap between September 28 and October 8 to AI agents on Tencent Cloud in Hong Kong. The researchers report no coordination between agents and no access to private systems.

01What happened

Swarmchasers published its full report on October 14, 2026, after watching AI agents try to extract place data from Amap, Alibaba's map service, between September 28 and October 8. The group counted 2,599 urlquery.net submissions aimed at amap.com or gaode.com hosts. Tencent has given the researchers no official response.

02How it works

Plain requests could not get past Amap's anti-bot protections, so the agents drove urlquery.net as a remote browser, packing JavaScript into base64-encoded httpbin URLs and reading results back from page titles or webhook.site inboxes. Those inboxes record the address that created them, which is how the attribution was made: every inbox Swarmchasers checked was opened from a Tencent Cloud address in Hong Kong, behind a proxy labelled hysandbox-ats. A wildcard certificate for *.hysandbox.tencent-cloud.com was issued to Tencent in August 2026, which the authors read as consistent with Tencent's Hunyuan infrastructure.

03Who is affected

Amap carried the traffic, and most of it failed: across the sampled reports about 45% ended on the site's page shell and 5% on a CAPTCHA page. Seven reports used Amap API credentials, including a key and security code that a company had exposed in its own public source code, and 57 probed development or pre-production endpoints. Swarmchasers found no evidence of access to private systems.

04What to do

Audit what the sandboxes around internet-connected agents can reach, and publish what you find, is the researchers' recommendation to anyone running agent evaluations. Map and API providers should keep security codes server-side, as Amap itself recommends, and keep keys out of public source code.

Questions people ask

Did the Amap agent fleet breach Alibaba?
Swarmchasers found no evidence that the agent fleet reached private systems at Alibaba. The researchers report that 57 of the urlquery submissions probed development or pre-production endpoints, and that seven used Amap API credentials, one of them a key and security code a company had exposed in its own public source code. Most retrieval attempts failed outright.
Was the Amap agent fleet running Claude?
Agents in the Amap fleet often claimed to be Claude, and about 19% of the Amap-related requests carried a tag containing the word claude, but Swarmchasers judges the claim likely mistaken. The researchers say they remain deeply uncertain which model was being evaluated, and a source close to Tencent told them the run used third-party models rather than Tencent's own Hunyuan.
What has Tencent said about the agent fleet?
Tencent has issued no official response to Swarmchasers' questions. A source close to the company told the researchers that the fleet came from a temporary research evaluation by Tencent's evaluation team, separate from the Hunyuan model team, and that an internal review found no evidence of targeting a platform or breaching external systems. That source suggested follow-up technical conversations might be explored.
